"Science Day with Turks at CERN" Event Held

President of TENMAK Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir BALIKÇI and Vice President Mr. Kadim BUDAK participated in ‘Science Day with Turks at CERN’ event held on October 1, 2022 at the CERN campus in Geneva, Switzerland, which was organized in cooperation with Permanent Mission of Türkiye to the UN Office at Geneva, Consulate General of Türkiye in Geneva, our scientists at CERN and TENMAK.

Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the UN Office at Geneva Ambassador Mr. Sadık ARSLAN, Consul General of Türkiye in Geneva Mrs. İpek ZEYTİNOĞLU ÖZKAN attended the event, which was organized periodically to bring together Turkish scientists working at CERN and Turkish citizens residing in various cities of Switzerland, especially Geneva. Approximately 110 people from our scientists at CERN and students and citizens in Switzerland and France were participate in the event.

President Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir BALIKÇI briefly mentioned the history of Turkey-CERN relations in the opening speech of the event and he shared the responsibilities undertaken by TENMAK within the scope of Turkey-CERN relations with the participants.

After the opening speech of Mr. Sadık ARSLAN, our CERN researchers Dr. Kaya TATAR, Dr. Salim OĞUR, Efe YAZGAN and Dr. Sinem ŞAHİN made presentations entitled “CERN and Particle Physics", "Particle Accelerators", "Higgs Physics" and "Large Hadron Collider Detectors".

Head of TENMAK Nuclear Energy Research Institute (NUKEN) and member of CERN ATLAS Collaboration Prof. Dr. Erkcan ÖZCAN made a presentation entitled “Turkey-CERN Relations and TENMAK as Responsible Agency for Relations”. After the closing speech of İpek ZEYTİNOĞLU ÖZKAN Consul General of Türkiye in Geneva, the question-answer session started. Following the question-answer session, the program ended with the interaction between our citizens, scientists and officials, accompanied by refreshments provided by our Permanent Mission.
