TENMAK PROTON ACCELERATOR FACILITY
The Proton Accelerator Facility operating within TENMAK contributes to Türkiye’s scientific infrastructure through its advanced technology and strategic production capacity.
At the facility on the Ankara campus, a 30 MeV proton accelerator is used to produce short-lived radioisotopes, particularly those used in nuclear medicine. These isotopes are used in PET and SPECT imaging applications, especially in cancer diagnosis.
The Facility aims to reduce dependence on imports through the domestic and secure production of critical radioisotopes such as fluorine-18 for PET and iodine-123, indium-111, gallium-67 and thallium-201 for SPECT; it also provides infrastructure for scientific studies through collaboration with universities and research institutions.
